Relevance
Compact multifunctional living module within a limited space is very important not only for small flats. It is also crucial for common living spaces such as hostels, dorms, summer camps etc. To find enough living space and storing space is always important.
Goal
Creating a universal and multifunctional furniture block for student dormitories
Tasks
  • Combine the following functionality in one block: workplace, recreation area, and storage space;
  • Provide storage space for various types of personal items: school supplies, clothing and shoes, personal items;
  • Create a convenient and beautiful design;
  • Offer affordable materials and designs (price availability).

The stages of the project

Study of planning solutions for dormitories and existing analogues of furniture for them.

Search for an artistic image and work out the functionality.

Creating a 3D model and working out the design features of the structure.

We attended Bravo-M furniture factory. We looked at machine tools, materials, fittings and technologies of furniture production
Legal requirements
There should be no less than 6 square meters per person in dormitory. The families should live in isolated rooms.

Conclusion:
After the research on the types of dormitory plans, we decided that our module should be 1000 х 2500 mm in size, because the standard mattress is 800 х 2000 mm.

Analysis of existing analogues
pros:
- Economy (cost);
- Reliability (strong materials, simple fittings);
- Ergonomics (ease of use);
- Presence of storage space;
- Availability of the work area.
cons:
- Awkward ascent to the second floor;
- Limited number of jobs;
- Little storage space;
- «Dead» zones above and below the beds;
- There is no personal space.
